San Augustine has been chosen to host the Smithsonian Museum on Main Street. It will be housed in the historic Stripling Drug Store. San Augustine is the oldest Anglo Saxon settlement in Texas. What a great place for the Smithsonian Museum on Main Street!
The Smithsonian Museum on Main street is a program to help small communities start amazing museums. The San Augustine Historical Society has been wanting to put the Stripling’s Drug Store building to good use, and what better way than to make a great museum that focuses on the changes in small-town America over the last 200 years.
This is going to be a great opportunity for the San Augustine Main Street Program! We are working hard to make our town a great place to spend the weekend. We are located far enough away from the large cities that our town is quiet and peaceful; however, we have lots of things to offer.
The Texas Historical Commission is helping us with this project. We are thankful that we have a State that helps small towns survive in a changing economic climate. We are excited about getting The Smithsonian Museum on Main Street set up in 2024.
